Grandma’s Timeless Peach Cobbler

Step 1: Prepare the Filling
  1. Fresh or canned peaches: If using fresh peaches, start by peeling and slicing them into medium-thick slices. If using canned peaches, drain them thoroughly.
  2. Combine ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, add the peaches, granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg (if using), lemon juice, and cornstarch. Mix gently to coat the peaches evenly.
  3. Set aside: Allow the filling to sit for 5–10 minutes. This helps the flavors meld together beautifully.
Step 2: Make the Topping
  1. Dry ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  2. Wet ingredients: Add the melted butter, milk, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Mix until the batter is smooth and well combined.
Step 3: Assemble the Cobbler
  1. Prepare the dish: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish or similar-sized ovenproof dish.
  2. Layer the peaches: Spread the peach filling evenly in the prepared dish. Ensure the juices are distributed for a luscious result.
  3. Add the topping: Pour the batter evenly over the peach mixture, ensuring it covers the fruit completely. The batter will bake into a golden crust.
Step 4: Bake
  1. Bake the cobbler: Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 35–40 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the peach juices bubble through the edges.
  2. Cool slightly: Allow the cobbler to cool for about 10 minutes before serving.
