Ingredients:
- 1–2 inches of fresh ginger root (about 1 tablespoon, sliced or grated)
- 4 cups (1 liter) of water
- Optional: juice of ½ lemon or 1 teaspoon honey for added flavor and benefits
Step 1: Prepare the Ginger
Start by washing the ginger root thoroughly to remove any dirt or chemicals. You can peel it if you like, but it’s not strictly necessary — the skin contains nutrients too. Slice the ginger into thin rounds or grate it for a more intense flavor.
Tip: Grated ginger releases more of its active compounds into the water, speeding up its infusion
Step 2: Boil the Water
Pour 4 cups of water into a saucepan and bring it to a gentle boil.
Step 3: Add the Ginger
Once the water is boiling, add your sliced or grated ginger to the pot. Reduce the heat and let it simmer for 10 to 15 minutes. The longer it simmers, the stronger the flavor and the more potent the drink.
You can simmer up to 30 minutes for a more concentrated version — great for storing in the fridge and diluting later.
